Overview
This course aims to offer a comprehensive theoretical and practical curriculum designed for graduate students in Latin America. It focuses on the biology and pathogenesis of trypanosomatid parasites, which are of considerable public health importance in the region. The program will encompass a range of topics, from foundational principles to advanced molecular biology techniques relevant to these parasites. Furthermore, the experimental modules will introduce participants to modern research methodologies, equipping them with tools that can be directly applied to their academic projects.

Classes will be held in Spanish, Portuguese or English.
Applications are now closed. We are only accepting applications from postgraduate students enrolled on the Doctorado en Ciencias Silvoagropecuarias y Veterinarias programme at the Universidad de Chile.
Letters of invitation will be provided if necessary. The course directors and the University of Chile are unable to assist with visa applications. Applicants are solely responsible for all immigration matters.
This course is recognized by the Postgraduate School of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Chile and is equivalent to 4 credits. To obtain certification (optional), students must submit a final paper.

Day 1
This course provides a comprehensive overview of trypanosomatid biology, with an emphasis on modern research techniques and their application to disease control.
Day 2
The program highlights key areas of trypanosomatid research, including gene expression regulation, functional genomics, signal transduction pathways, and metabolic processes.
Day 3
This session will explore the molecular mechanisms of trypanosomatid infection, covering topics such as parasite molecular typing, host-parasite interactions, and innovative gene editing techniques.
Day 4
On this session focuses on the applications of AI in drug discovery against trypanosomatids, exploring topics such as genome plasticity in drug resistance, detoxification systems, rational drug design, oxidative stress, and the challenges of targeting dormant parasites.
Day 5
The symposium will give students and faculty the opportunity to share their latest research.
